Some findings of contemporary knowledge workers

Gigaom Research recently conducted a comparative analysis on two global surveys – one of which aims at contemporary knowledge workers (18-34 years old) and the other is for IT professionals; which facilitate IT executives of enterprises understand needs and demands of contemporary knowledge workers and know the “mobile differential” between current global knowledge workers and IT department, and develop appropriate strategies to match the movement of people, technology and business goals. Here are some key findings of the report:

Overall, the IT departments perform well in supporting employees’ mobile communicating and satisfying collaboration needs. Employees questioned generally said enterprise IT department advanced ahead of demands of providing and satisfying key productivity software and intranet applications such as collaboration tool.

Employees questioned generally said that enterprises provided good support for mobile business applications such as email, file synchronization, video conferencing and other applications. However, even though the corporate IT decision-makers surveyed showed a high enthusiasm to cloud computing and BYOD, in terms of BYOD there’re still differences between employees’ preference and enterprise IT support.

Enterprise collaboration tools market high-speed starts. Survey showed that enterprise IT departments were starting to focus on external collaboration tools, 59 percent of respondents said they had been replaced internal communication and collaboration tools in the past one year.

Approximately 13% of the corporate IT departments acted fast in terms of mobility fields, and had been in cutting edge of mobility, cloud and BYOD and new collaboration tools.

The factors of cloud, mobility and BYOD can improve employees’ productivities, while they also bring many difficulties for enterprise data and device management. Administrators of corporate need to take measures to ensure the balance between employees’ free use of cloud, mobility and BYOD and corporate data security.
